NASA’s Western Water Action Office (WWAO) is harnessing the power of NASA Earth observation data to enhance water decision making across the West through its latest private sector collaboration with Hazen and Sawyer (Hazen), a leading engineering consulting firm specializing in water resource and infrastructure solutions.
“With the rapid advancements in Earth observation technology, there are tremendous opportunities to apply this data for the benefit of communities in the water-stressed West. NASA WWAO is excited to work with Hazen to unlock that potential,” said Mark Davidson, NASA WWAO’s Water Alliance lead and head of private sector partnerships.
Hazen brings deep expertise in helping clients across the U.S. and internationally address challenges in water, wastewater, and infrastructure management goals. Together with NASA WWAO, Hazen will explore how to best integrate NASA‘s cutting-edge Earth observation data—including data from NASA’s Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission, and the upcoming NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission—into its advanced water resource management tools, such as the OASIS water system model. This integration aims to provide a clearer, more comprehensive understanding of the overall state of water in the regions served by Hazen’s clients.
“Hazen is thrilled to collaborate with NASA WWAO to innovate and bring the best, most comprehensive data that science has to offer to the communities we serve,” said Josh Weiss, Director of Water Resources Innovations at Hazen.
Pilot projects between NASA WWAO and Hazen will begin in early summer.
Updates on the collaboration’s progress will be shared periodically via NASA WWAO’s website. Entities interested in similar partnerships are encouraged to contact Mark Davidson.
